Rainer Bachschmid was born in 1966 in southern Germany. Following his training as a carpenter he studied Industrial Design in Wuppertal. Subsequently he worked with a number of well-known design agencies before moving on to the Swiss furniture industry. In 2007 Rainer Bachschmid founded his own design studio. Since then he has been active in various areas including industrial- and consumer design, as well as furniture design. His first joint project with STERN® was for 2017.
Teak is considered the best wood for outdoor furniture. Teak does not need to be impregnated or specially treated for protection. STERN teak furniture comes from controlled wood sources. The high content of natural oils makes the wood particularly weather-resistant. Over time, teak acquires an unmistakable, silver-grey patina. The influence of rain, heat and light can cause small cracks to form. This is normal and does not affect the quality and durability of the furniture in any way.

Silverstar table tops consist of up to 50 layers of paper laminate, which are compressed under heat and high pressure. This procedure gives the table top very special qualities, for it becomes scratch-resistant, heat-(180°C) and cold- (-20°C) resistant, UV-resistant, easy to care for and wear-resistant. Regardless of the number of decorative elements, the core is always black, which can be seen on the edges of the table top. In order to ensure stability of form, the table tops must be firmly screwed to the frame.
